Bård Breivik. Score
Bård Breivik's series ”Score for a Longer Conversation” will be at display in 'Tårnsalen' until Oct 26th.
The series was originally part of our popular summer-exhibition "Bård Breivik. History", which ended on September 21. We are very pleased to be able to offer our visitors to experience this series for an extra month of time.
"Score for a Longer Conversation" is an open-ended series begun in the 1980s and consisting of several hundred vertically arranged forms. While all the forms are 120 cm long, they are made with different handcrafting techniques and in all types of materials, often in collaboration with craftspersons in other parts of the world. Here one can find examples of Japanese lacquer-work, Thai hammered copper and Norwegian weaving. According to Breivik himself, they function as a type of travel journal, each one being based on an impression from his travels. For Breivik, each form holds a specific memory - about people, a material, a handshake and a place.
Bård Breivik himself states about his series:
'Score for a Longer Conversation has the tendency to trigger something in people. It calls to mind things they've seen before in another context. That's what the series is largely about; it's about memories, the passing of time - and about humanity's infinite inventiveness.'
