Love & Death

How has death been given artistic expression during the different periods of the visual arts and crafts?

Love and death are fundamental factors in the life of a human being. Love is most often associated with life, but can also come to the fore when life ends and love becomes “homeless”. Grief, bereavement, fear and hope have throughout time been depicted in painting, sculpture and functional objects.

This low-key and novel exhibition examines how death has been given artistic expression during the different periods of the visual arts and crafts. The exhibition presents works from our own collection as well as works on loan by artists such as Christian Boltanski, Zoe Leonard, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Charlotte Thiis-Evensen.
