Bergen Assembly – An Initiative for Art and Research
Monday Begins on Saturday

Program for the opening days
Public Opening:
31 August 2013
Symposium (Public):
31 August–01 September 2013

'Monday Begins on Saturday' is the title of the first edition of Bergen Assembly – An Initiative for Art and Research, and takes the form of an international exhibition, publication, and symposium.

The artists that will be presented at KODE's venues (in KODE 1 and KODE 4) will be announced in late August.

The exhibition presents the positions of more than 50 international artists working in a variety of media. As a contemporary rewriting of the Soviet fantasy novel Monday Begins on Saturday by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, the exhibition is conceived as an archipelago of fictitious research institutes. Spread over 11 venues in Bergen, art institutions of various sizes gather works that are themselves the outcome of critical-imaginative research into the heightened contradictions and particular injustices of our time.

The publication, a print version of the curatorial montage with newly commissioned and anthologized theoretical, literary, and artistic texts and contributions, will accompany the exhibition. Additionally, a short guide to the exhibition will provide insight into the narratives and concepts of the numerous works.

An international symposium featuring artist’s talks and –performances and panel discussions with the project’s contributors also takes place during the opening days of Bergen Assembly.
