Larry Clark: Teenage Lust

Larry Clark is widely regarded as one of the most important and influental American photographers of his generation.

“I Wanted to present the way kids see things, but without all this baggage… You know… they’re living in the moment not thinking about anything beyond that
and that’s what I wanted to catch. And I wanted the viewer to feel like you’re there with them – you can be there fucking, smoking dope, having sex…”
Larry Clark

Larry Clark (b. 1943) is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential American photographers of his generation and his first feature film Kids was very controversial. The film, which featured a day-in-the-life of a young HIV-positive boy and his skateboard friends, was an instant classic.

Clark’s exhibition Teenage Lust is not an autobiographical presentation, but displays Clark’s personal snapshots as both an observer and as a participator. The artist is known for both his raw and contentious photographs and his controversial films focusing on teen sexuality, violence, and drug use. Teenage Lust has at its core the rawness, vulnerability, and uncertainty of adolescence, a key strain that runs throughout Clark’s work.
